Magazine, Zeszyty Literackie [Literary Notebooks], was founded by Barbara Toruńczyk in Paris in 1982, during the period of communist rule in Poland, as an independent voice of Polish art and culture. Before 1989, the quarterly had no permission to circulate. Since 1990, it has been printed in Poland. Today, our Foundation continues its mission to promote the highest level of Polish and world literature. Regular contributors to Zeszyty Literackie have included: Czesław Miłosz, Zbigniew Herbert, Leszek Kołakowski, Claudio Magris, Timothy Garton Ash, Julia Hartwig and Marek Edelman. Our editorial board has an international profile. The editorial committee includes, or has included: Roberto Salvadori from Italy, Tomas Venclova from Lithuania, Joseph Brodsky from Petersburg and Manhattan (Nobel Prize 1987) and Petr Kral from the Czech Republic. In addition, our editorial board includes, or has included: Barbara Toruńczyk (editor-in-chief), Stanisław Barańczak, Tomsz Cyz, Ewa Bieńkowska, Wojciech Karpiński, Ewa Kuryluk, Tomasz Różycki, Adam Szczuciński, Adam Zagajewski and Marek Zagańczyk.
